The Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olushola Alao, and the Oyo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Otunba Ademola Ojo, have condoled with Governor Seyi Makinde and his family over the passing of his elder brother, Engineer Sunday Makinde, who died on Friday, January 24, 2025, at the age of 65.
In a condolence message, Oba Alao described Engr. Makinde’s death as a shocking and significant loss. The monarch prayed for God’s comfort and strength for the governor and his family, urging them to take solace in the fulfilling life the late engineer lived. He noted that the deceased would be remembered for his positive contributions to his family and community.
Oba Alao also prayed for the deceased’s wife and children, asking God to be sufficient for them in every aspect of life. He extended his prayers to the governor and his siblings, wishing them long life and good health.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Otunba Ademola Ojo, popularly known as “Ijaya,” expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Chief Sunday Makinde. In a statement on behalf of the ministry, Ojo described the late engineer as a man of integrity, humility, and kindness, highlighting his significant contributions to the development of Ibadanland and Oyo State.
“Chief Sunday Makinde was a man of integrity and a pillar of support to the Makinde family. His legacy of humility, kindness, and dedication to the growth of Aigbofa family and Ibadanland will not be forgotten,” Ojo stated.
The late Engr. Makinde, a respected community leader and devoted Christian, was known for his philanthropic efforts and commitment to unity and progress in Ibadanland. The ministry urged the Makinde family to draw comfort from the impactful and fulfilled life he lived and called on the people of Oyo State to support the governor and his family with prayers and words of encouragement.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Your Excellency. May God grant you the fortitude to bear this loss,” the ministry concluded, reiterating its support for Governor Makinde during this difficult time.
