Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the auspices of Ondo APC Aborigines have called on the State government to investigate the circumstances that led to the sudden death of one of the governorship aspirants in the forthcoming election in the state, Dr. Paul Akintelure
The group made this call yesterday after adjourning its meeting scheduled to announce its preferred candidate to the leadership of the party in the state from the three shortlisted aspirants by the special committee put in place by the group.
The leader of the group and a former Ambassador, Olusola Iji, said the adjournment of the meeting became necessary to mourn Akintelure who was a strong member of the group.
According to him, there is a need for investigation over the sudden death of the medical doctor cum politician, who raised the alarm a few days ago that his life is under threat.
Iji disclosed that the deceased was one of the foremost aspirants penciled down by the group for screening but expressed sadness over the announcement of the sudden death of the medical who had earlier raised the alarm over threats to his life.
He, however, asked the state government to unravel the cause of the death of Akinterinwa who he disclosed was one of the three aspirants shortlisted as the candidate of the party.
Other shortlisted aspirants include Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa and former commissioner for finance, Mr. Wale Akinterinwa as likely candidates of the group to be recommended to the party.
Iji said “Today’s meeting was met to receive and adopt the final report of the resolution of the group in supporting one of the aspirants but we were shocked earlier this morning when we learned of the death of Dr. Paul Akintelure.

“We have to suspend our meeting to seize the opportunity to mourn his demise and step down the recommendations of the committee because Akintelure has contributed to the development of the party. He was a simple man.
“A few days back he spoke out about a threat to his life. If he so expressed that threat, even though we do not know the details, we call on the state Governor to unravel whatever mystery surrounding his death.
“It is part of the responsibility of government to protect lives and property and we have adjourned till another date to discuss. He was one of those recommended by the Committee and chances are high that he could have been the preferred aspirant.“
