Today, November 16, 2024, marks a crucial day for Ondo as its residents head to the polls to elect a new governor. The election is important not only significant for the people of Ondo but also for the entire nation, as it tests the integrity of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the progress made since the widely criticised Edo election in September.

This off-cycle gubernatorial election is one of seven in Nigeria, including Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Kogi, Osun, and Imo. The election’s timing stems from a 2009 court verdict that sacked the then-governor, Segun Agagu, resulting in Ondo’s governorship tenure beginning two years after most other states.

Here are the six easy steps to vote in the Ondo gubernatorial election:

Step 1: Find Your Voting Station: Ensure you have the address of the correct voting station for your voting district. You can use the Voting Station Finder tool on the Electoral Commission of South Africa website to find your station.

Step 2: Present Your ID: At the entrance of the voting station, present your valid identification document (voters card) to the door controller.

Step 3: Check the Voters’ Roll: Proceed to the voters’ roll table, where election officials will check your name and ID number on the national common voters’ roll for your voting district.

Step 4: Get Your Ballot Papers: Receive your ballot papers from an election official, ensuring each paper has a unique number and a stamp verifying its issuance on Election Day.

Step 5: Cast Your Vote: Make your selection by marking an “X” next to your chosen candidate or party. Fold your ballot papers and drop them into the ballot box.

Step 6: Get Your ID Stamped: After voting, have your ID document stamped by an election official to confirm your participation.
