Following a destructive rainstorm in the Iloko community of Oriade Local Government Area, Osun State, one person has tragically lost their life, while approximately 600 individuals have been displaced, according to a report by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
The rainstorm, which occurred in March, caused significant damage to homes and properties in Iloko-Ijesa, resulting in millions of naira in losses for residents and traders.
In a statement posted on its official handle, NEMA’s Southwest Zonal Office, in conjunction with Osun State SEMA and community leaders, conducted an assessment of the disaster. Led by AZC Olanrewaju Kazeem, the team was warmly welcomed by Oba Akeem Ogungbangbe, who briefed them on the situation.
The assessment revealed widespread damage, including property destruction and loss of livelihoods. In addition to the tragic loss of life, over a thousand individuals were affected, with 600 now displaced from their homes.
