We bring communal greetings to your excellency we want to seize this medium to appreciate your good works in Ekiti State even though despite our huge support for your administration, Ido Ekiti people feel short changed in the delivery of democratic dividends in terms of capital projects over the years.  However, while we pray for good health and God’s benevolence for you, it is the firm hope and belief of our people that the situation could still be remedied before your administration leaves the saddle in October 2022.

Much as we see it as a good gesture in bringing governance to the grassroots, the creation of additional 19 LCDAs have demeaned and denigrated Ido-Ekiti in the ranking of towns and communities in Ekiti. Ido Ekiti, from historical and political antecedents, rank with such first-class towns as Ado-Ekiti, Ikole-Ekiti, Ijero-Ekiti, Ikere-Ekiti, etc. In the light of this, we are using this medium to formally register our reservations and utmost displeasure with respect to the emplacement of Ido-Ekiti in the issue of the recently created 19 LCDAs in addition to the existing 16 LGAs in Ekiti State.

Our concern is borne out of the perceived intention of such exercise to weaken our prominence among the leading communities in Ekiti land. Historically, Ido Ekiti became the headquarters of Ero Local Government in 1976 just at the creation of the then Ondo State. Ero Local Government was later divided into three separate Local Government Areas in 1996 (20 years later) at the creation of the present Ekiti State.

It is on record that we as a community are not known to agitate or fight for prominence and recognition which beforehand was accorded us as rights in the days of our forefathers and also justified by our current population and economic strength. Seemingly, we as a community have since seen that our benign silence is being taken for granted, purportedly, that Ido-Ekiti will take anything thrown at them without any qualms. We, as a community, frown at this treatment despite our support for this administration, ab initio.   However, Ido-Ekiti people remain law abiding and resolute to forge ahead knowing that your government will review, reconsider and revisit some issues requiring your URGENT intervention in the spirit of inclusion, pluralism and equity.

As a listening Governor, we will like to have a dialogue with you and your representatives on the way forward on the creation of LCDAs and other matters even as 2022 is knocking the door. To put it succinctly and saliently, the Ido-Ekiti people are not happy with the recent development. Hence, the leaders of the ancient town deem it fit to express our displeasure with these lines hoping that your government will listen and address our concerns meritoriously.

We are much aware that Ido/Osi Local Government is a direct product of the National Assembly and duly recognized as one of the third tiers of Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. However, we feel it is time to demand for the status of Municipality; making it a sole and independent Local Government Area; Ido – Ekiti Local Government Area in Ekiti State. This we hope shall facilitate rapid development to the community. Else, do one leave Osi Ekiti, being Ido/Osi LGA in the arrangement of current exercise, arrive Igbole Ekiti, now relocated to Isokan LCDA and come to Ido Ekiti again as Ido/Osi LGA? We found this very geographically odd, lopsided, confusing and misleading to any would-be guests to our community. Moreover, it is overbearing or burdensome to attach five communities with seven wards as a LGA while there exist other LGAs/LCDAs with two communities that are not up to any of the communities here in Ido/Osi LGA.

We shall forever write your name in the golden records of our community as you use your good office to objectively and dispassionately review, reconsider and revisit this LCDAs/LGAs issue by acceding to our plea for an independent Ido-Ekiti Local Government in Ekiti State.

Please accept the best assurances of our esteemed regards.

  • For and on behalf of Ido-ekiti Community,
  • HRM Oba Ayorinde-Ilori Faboro, The Olojudo of Ido-ekiti
  • Hon. Dr. Sola Ogunsina, President, Ido-ekiti Progressive Association (Ipa)
  • Hon. Rotimi Afolabi, Chairman, Ido-ekiti Development Council (Idc)
