Tragedy befell the Department of Mass Communication, Daily Part-time Program, at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, as it mourns the untimely demise of Olatona Olarenwaju, a National Diploma (ND2) student and the Financial Secretary of the department. Olatona lost his life in a fatal accident on Monday night along the Osogbo-Ikirun Road in Osun State.
According to reports gathered by NEB, Olatona, also known as Folarin, was riding a motorcycle with another person when they collided with a trailer, resulting in his tragic passing. The other individual involved in the accident is currently receiving medical treatment in a hospital.
Dr. Tope Abiola, the Dean of Students’ Affairs at OSPOLY, confirmed the incident, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of such a responsible and promising student. “He was supposed to be doing his Internship Training (IT),” Dr. Abiola lamented. “Authorities of the Polytechnic extend heartfelt condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased. May his soul rest in peace.”
In light of this unfortunate event, the Rector of the institution, acting through the Dean of Students’ Affairs, has reached out to the family of the deceased to offer sympathy and support during this difficult time. Additionally, OSPOLY authorities are calling on the government to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and ensure that justice is served. “We want the Government to bring to book the driver of the trailer who passed an illegal road, thereby cutting short the life of our student,” the Dean stated. “This incident should serve as a deterrent to other reckless drivers.”
As the OSPOLY community mourns the loss of one of its own, they remain united in grief and solidarity, remembering Olatona Olarenwaju as a dedicated student and a valued member of the Mass Communication Department.
