…advocates concerted effort on voter’s education
The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON in Osun, Hon. Samuel Idowu Abiodun has implored residents of the State to take maximum advantage provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC, to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
The Council boss who described the exercise as one of the noble civic responsibilities of the citizens, called on those who have not registered to maximize the window of opportunity provided by INEC to continue the registration exercise at various Ward Collation Centres across the Councils in the State.
This is even as he emphasised the need for concerted effort to strengthen voter’s education system.
Recall that the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission in the State, Professor AbdulGaniy Raji had few days ago disclosed that over 230,000 PVCs are yet to be collected by voters in the State.
Speaking on Wednesday in Osogbo, the ALGON Chairman, said the move of the continuous voters registration exercise to Wards across the State, would go a long way to further encourage electorate since the exercise would be conducted at their various domains across the nooks and crannies of the State.
Abiodun, who doubled as the Caretaker Chairman, Ifedayo Local Government Area, noted that the decision to move the continuous voters registration exercise to Ward Collation Centres from tomorrow Thursday 24th to Sunday 30th this month was a noble one.
He expressed displeasure on the volume of uncollected PVCs urging the voters to get them collected without further delay.
The council boss added: “As the governorship election approaches, it is pertinent for us as citizens and residents of our dear State to exercise our civic responsibility by ensuring that we get registered and obtain our PVCs.
“As we all know, the exercise had commenced for months and since its commencement, the electoral umpire has been mustering efforts to ensure that everyone get registered to vote, so, this is a thing we must all participate in, in the interest of growth, development and progress of our dear State.
“Now that the continuous voters registration exercise would be moved to our various ward collation centres across the State, there is no reason for us not to participate in the exercise.
“I am appealing to the electoral body not to relent in its efforts to further strengthen voter’s education as this would go a long way to equip voters with relevant information” Continue Reading
