Osun State government has accused telecoms companies operating in the state of non-compliance with relevant laws, regulations and unpaid bills.

The consultant and chairman of Global Transactions Limited, Mr Rotimi George Taylor, who is also the consultant to the Osun State government on telecommunications infrastructure made the allegations against telecommunications companies operating in in the state.

Geoorge-Taylor, at a press conference in Osogbo, said: “Many telecoms companies are not complying with the law,” adding that “one of the largest mobile network operators in Nigeria has outstanding bills of over N900 million.”

He further said that the said telecommunication has laid about 270 kilometres of cable across the state, without paying a dime to the state government.

“The truth is that if telecoms companies are having issues, some of them are due to poor diligence measures. The bills they are supposed to pay, they do not pay them and this is why a naming and shaming policy had to be adopted,” Taylor said.

He revealed that the telecommunication had been reported to its headquarters in South Africa, as they cannot rob the people of Osun State.

He pointed out that this development was likely to put more pressure on telecom companies operating in the state to settle their outstanding debts and comply with the relevant laws and regulations of the state.

It will be recalled that the Osun State government had recently made it known that it will no longer tolerate any form of non-compliance or unpaid bills from these companies.
