Ahead of the 2022 gubernatorial election in Osun State, members of the public have been advised to collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs).

This call was made by the Osun INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Abdulganiy Olayinka Raji during a sensitisation forum for community leaders in Osogbo on Monday.

Professor Raji explained that the call was targeted at eligible members of the public who have been duly registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).

While explaining that the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) was a requirement for eligibility to vote in the guber polls, Raji added that eligible residents of Osun who have registered should proceed to the INEC office in their local governments of residence to collect their PVCs.

The Osun INEC REC, who revealed that the INEC Osun office had received a total number of 333,000 new PVCs from the CVR, which were awaiting collection, tasked the community leaders and stakeholders to see it as a point of duty to convince people to come for the PVCs.

He also revealed that a total number of 370,000 PVCs were still left uncollected from the 2019 general elections.

The Osun INEC boss, who explained that only 15 political parties scaled through, maintained that only three political parties were barred from fielding candidates for the polls as they did not meet up with the set requirements as enshrined in the Electoral Act, 2022.

Professor Raji also advocated for cooperation of all the religious and traditional leaders to ensure a free, fair, smooth gubernatorial election in Osun State.

The Osun INEC REC revealed that the Commission had gone through 12 out of the 14 steps in preparation for the Osun gubernatorial election.

The only steps remaining according to Professor Raji is to take delivery of the election materials and the election proper.

“The 12th process is the training of ad-hoc staff.

“Sensitisation of the electorates will lead to a conclusive and peaceful election,” he said.

While appealing to the gubernatorial candidates to seek justice from the law courts in the event that they are dissatisfied with the election results, he promised that INEC will make available every resources needed when there is recourse to approach the court of law. Continue Reading
