Nationnewslead reports that RESCUE efforts to free four remaining passengers abducted near Iwaraja Junction, along Ilesha/Akure road may have been stalled, following withdrawal of some of the security personnel conducting search for the victims.

Recall that seven of the passengers said to be members of a transport union were reportedly kidnapped by gunmen late Monday, but three of the victims were released early on Tuesday.

According to findings, members of Oodua Peoples Congress in the state and vigilante men, had joined the police in conducting the search for the victims inside Iwaraja forest.

However, security sources, who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said the rescue efforts might have been called off by the people assisting the police.

When contacted, Osun State OPC Coordinator, Prince Deji Aladesawe, said the group had withdrawn its men from the operation.

Although he refused to say clearly, why the decision was taken, Aladesawe, however, said the kidnappers had contacted families of those still being held through the three victims that were earlier released.

Aladesawe said, “It is true; OPC has withdrawn from the search. Only two groups joined the police in the search since the kidnapping occurred. Vigilante and OPC men joined the police in combing the bush.”

Calls to the Police Public Relations Officer for Osun Command, Yemisi Opalola, did not go through as of the time of filing this report, while a text sent to her had not been replied.

But the state Commandant of Amotekun Corps, Brigadier General Bashir Adewinbi, (retd), said the rescue operation had not been called off, saying the state was ready to take care of the welfare of those assisting the security agents.
