Fuji musician Okunola Saheed, also known as Osupa, has dropped his legal action against the controversial artiste Badmus Okikiola, famously called Portable.

Osupa’s lawyer, Ahmed Opalekunde, confirmed to The PUNCH Online on Tuesday that a notice of withdrawal had been filed at the Upper Area Court 1 of the High Court in Ilorin.

Portable was brought before a court on Monday by the Kwara State Police Command after Osupa lodged a formal complaint against him.

Osupa had personally reported Portable to the police, alleging criminal defamation, intimidation, incitement of public unrest, and cyberstalking.

The reported offences were said to violate and attract penalties under several laws, including Section 392 on criminal defamation, Section 114 on inciting disturbance, and Section 397 on criminal intimidation of the Penal Code. They also fall under Sections 24(1)(b) and 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015, along with Sections 10 and 13 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2020.

In a chat with The PUNCH on Tuesday, Osupa’s solicitor revealed that his client instructed him to withdraw the case after appeals and interventions from prominent stakeholders.

He stated that Osupa had decided to resolve the matter with Portable through an out-of-court settlement.

The letter of withdrawal also carried a caution from Osupa, advising Portable to cease any further harmful comments or publications about him.

The withdrawal letter read, “It’s our client’s (nominal complainant) instruction that the stakeholders in the music industry and other notable personalities in the society have intervened in the matter and pleaded to the nominal complainant to withdraw the case against the defendant in the interest of public peace.

“We hereby on behalf of our client apply to withdraw the case against the defendant and terminate same accordingly as the matter had been resolved amicably.

“Further, sir, we want to pray the court to admonish and warn the defendant to desist from any further publications, utterances and any other acts aiming at disparaging the person and businesses of the nominal complainant.”

It’s worth noting that Osupa, among other claims, accused Portable of using a live stream to insult him and damage his character. He further alleged that Portable falsely stated Osupa had removed his music from streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify, actions that could have harmed his reputation and affected his potential earnings.

The petition claimed that, in a live Instagram broadcast on March 19, 2025, Portable made damaging remarks about Osupa, accusing him of jealousy and trying to undermine his career.

In the viral video, Portable was quoted as saying, “This man dey try to bring down my shine! He be like person wey dey chop snail with shell—him no get sense. Osupa na tortoise. When Apple Music and Spotify wan drop money for me, na him remove my song from platform make I no see money.”

Osupa characterised the statements as harmful, provocative, and an assault on his reputation, asserting that the content had sparked public tension and unrest.

It should be noted that Chief Magistrate Sunday Adeniyi, in his brief ruling on Monday, granted Portable bail in the amount of N1 million with two sureties. One surety was required to be the chairman of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, while the other must own property in the Government Reserved Area within the court’s jurisdiction.
