Tomorrow, Sunday, the calendar will read December 1, which ushers in the last month in 2024. This month no doubt, came with many things to think about for everyone including children. What could the children be thinking about as the year is coming to an end? Some students of Christ Liberty Schools, Olorunda, Ibadan, Oyo State shared their thoughts with Aunty ‘Yemi.

I have been thinking about many things as we will begin a new month tomorrow. They are: preparations for Christmas, which include decorating our house with Christmas colours and balloons; and the fun park to visit. However, I thought on the other side that the situation in Nigeria might not make my wish come true as I would have loved it because I would not want my parents to spend too much.

My thought is on my report card because it will determine whether my mummy will buy gift for me or not. I have also been thinking of how people will cope with the high prices of goods and services. I feel some are not happy because the year is ending yet things are still very expensive. I hope someone will present me a gift during the festive period. Another thing I have thought of is that I must perform well in my examinations or else, no Christmas gifts from my parents.

When I remembered that November was ending, the first thing that crossed my mind was my examination result. The reason is that it will determine whether my parents would buy Christmas clothes for me or not. I feel like Christmas Day should come earlier because I am excited. It is also in my thoughts to save some amount of money to buy a wristwatch, a pair of spectacles and a pair of shoes if it is not too expensive. Praying to God to bless my parents as we approach the festive mood is also part of my thoughts.

One of my thoughts is that by now, in spite of the high prices of goods in the market, my parents would have been thinking of how and when they will buy needed things for the festive period. Number two is that my parents would have been thinking about my 2nd term school fees because we would resume in January. I am praying that God shall touch the heart of the government to make cost of things in the market to come down. I wish to travel to our hometown, Irele, Ondo State.

As December is around the corner, there are many things running through my mind. I consider the economic hardship in Nigeria and I have since then been thinking of how the Christmas celebration would look like this year. Although I am a Muslim, my family has a Christian family friend with whom we celebrate the Yuletide. I do not know if the usual visit will be possible this year because of the situation of things around us.
I am also wishing and praying to end this year in good health and sound mind. In addition, I wish to have a nice time at an ice cream shop during the festive period.

I hope my mum will buy Christmas wears for me. Apart from that, my academic performance must be impressive, being my parents’ expectation from me. The situation in the country is a big problem to everyone but thank God, my family is coping well. I wish my dad will buy a new car as year 2024 is ending.

December is a special month because it is a period of enjoyment and festivity. I wish the situation of the country changed for the better as December is around the corner, so we can celebrate Christmas and New Year in comfort.
I do not wish to make my parents unhappy so I am seriously thinking and working hard to get good grades in my examinations.
