2024 had so many events in Nigeria and beyond. These events did not happen to the old alone; the young ones experienced them also. Aunty ‘Yemi interacted with some children who expressed their feelings about some of the major events in the outgoing year.

In this outgoing year, one of the events that I cannot forget is inflation, which is the rise in the prices of goods and services. This sole economic challenge stood out among other events because it affected all age groups and people of different social classes.
Just like other families experienced hardship, my family’s economic strength greatly reduced, and this led to the unavailability of many things we had been enjoying as children in the house.

Increment of fuel price remains in my memory because it changed the prices of everything, particularly school fees and food items. The effect of the hike in the pump price of petrol had effect on my transport fare, it has increased greatly. Another problem the increase in prices of fuel, goods and services has caused is that citizens no longer find it easy to eat three-square meals.

The event that remains unforgettable in 2024 is the explosion which happened at Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State. This incident happened in January this year.
It stood out because many lives were lost, and properties worth millions of naira were also destroyed, opening the year 2024. The incident affected so many people, and many of them still haven’t fully recovered from their losses.

As for me, the unforgettable events in 2024 are: increase in fuel price and sudden surge in prices of commodities. These events stood out because they cut across the entire nation. I had a share in it because my parents have been unable to provide all the necessary things they should provide because the funds available are not adequate for the numerous needs of the family. Also moving around, especially to
recreation centres, is so difficult.

I cannot forget quickly the high cost of living in Nigeria that spared no one. It affected me in so many ways: I could not eat and ask for more, the amount I used to transport myself to school has doubled, we cannot eat chicken at will as we used to. It had a toll on Nigerians to the extent that if anyone is sharing free food somewhere you see many people rushing there and at the end of the day they end up getting injured and killing themselves.

For me, the most unforgettable event that took place in Nigeria was the stampede that took place at the funfair in Oyo State and some other states.
It stood out from other events because since the time the organisers have been organising the funfairs, that kind of incident had never happened.
It did not affect me or my family in any way, but about thirty-five children died in Oyo State not to talk of other states. I pray we do not witness such unfortunate incident like that again. Amen.

The sudden increase in the price of foodstuffs is one happening that is unforgettable in 2024. Testimonies from the elderly ones revealed such has never happened before. This makes it stand out.
It really affected me and my entire family because our usual meal pattern has been affected.
