Two siblings, male and female, were killed on Monday by a speeding driver at Irewon junction, along Imowo-Ibadan Garage, Ijebu-Ode.
It was learned that the two pedestrians were knocked down from behind by the driver of a Honda Accord car with registration number KJA 394 EE.
The driver was said to have been on top speed and could not control the vehicle while trying to negotiate a bend on the axis.
The remains of the victims have been deposited at a morgue in Ijebu-Ode, while angry citizens blocked the Imowo -Ibadan road before they were dispersed by security operatives.
The Public Relations Officer of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the driver would have been lynched to death if not for the intervention of security agents.
He said, “According to eyewitness account, the driver of the Honda Car was driving excessively (excessive speed) before the vehicle lost control and rammed into the children who were walking by the roadside, backing traffic, killing them on the spot.
“But for the intervention of TRACE, the Army, and Police the driver would have been lynched, the vehicle burnt with the likelihood of mayhem following.
“The accident vehicle has been towed to Obalende Police Station, Ijebu-Ide, for further investigation, while the bodies of the two siblings(Male and Female) have been deposited at Ijebu-Ode General Hospital mortuary.
“While TRACE, the Nigeria Army and the Police commiserate with the family of the deceased, drivers are again charged to avoid excessive speed while driving in view of its attendant consequences. Pedestrians are also urge to avoid backing traffic while walking by the roadside. Rather they should face oncoming traffic to avert danger.“
