Protocols duly observed

I am highly delighted to address this configuration of eminent education stakeholders, diligent principals and other cream of erudite bundles of knowledge. The challenge of this address is to ensure that at the end of this address, individuals should be better off.

I salute the retiring principals who assumed teaching job as young class teachers but rose along the hierarchy and became principals of reputable status. I, Oba, Dr. Akeem Olusayo Ogungbangbe, congratulate you on this achievement and for successfully bowing out of government service in clean states that are devoid of professional misconducts. This is a thing of joy and kudos to you all. I will not take much of your time, however, my presence here should add new patterns of experience into your archive of knowledge.

As you bow out honourably from public service, you ought to ensure that life continues in active capacities. Why? Because, being active contributes to healthy living, prevents boredom and eliminate stagnation. While you attempt to be active in retirement, please engage yourselves in activities that are body friendly, resourceful and profitably rewarding. If you are already integrated in community assignments and responsibilities, please, be more active. If, however, you are not, this is the right time you should be involved as this will brings joy and happiness into your lives. Do not cast yourselves alone, it is dangerous and does not support long live.

You have worked conscientiously well, you have retired to rest while looking forward to collect your benefits which I pray that the Lord in his infinite mercies shall speed up payment of your entitlements and you shall enjoy the fruits of your labour. You will not suffer or labour in pain to get your deserved retirement packages and you shall rest happily. This is the time to elicit the experiences that you have acquired while in active service for self-sustenance and maintenance as well as helping to further develop your communities.

I further extend this address to the active principals who are not retiring today but who are being relocated from one job position to another. A transfer is not an embodiment of punishment but rather a corollary to gathering more knowledge and experiences, an opportunity for workers to acquire expansive pedigree leading to robust acumen. To this end, I charge you to be more responsive and reactive in your job performances.

The essence of your leadership role is to contribute your own quotas to develop humanity and create future leaders. Be of good examples to your subordinates, create conducive atmosphere to learning and administration, so that academic arena will remember you for a long time. You must work closely and diligently relate with all the stakeholders in the education parlance, most especially in the localities where you are serving.

I also extend this address to all other principals who are neither retired nor transferred and other academic gurus here present. Though you are not new in your places of work, yet you can always create new things, create new ideas, be innovative in teaching and knowledge transfer, doing so automatically defines you as dynamic and active. I want you to understand that your leadership roles should include changing peoples’ ways of life through pan academic intelligence and classroom pedagogy, this can subsequently make the beneficiaries happy. Try and see yourselves as life reformers so that people will always remember you when you also complete your assignments as public officers.

Today, people still remember Chinese, Kong-Qiu Confuscius (561-479BC) one of the most learned men of all times who rose and became the first private teacher in history. Today also, people remember Mr. Claudius Phillips, the first western teacher in Nigeria, he lived in Badagry. Today, people still remember the Greek Philosophers; Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, Pythagoras, Heraclitus, Democritus and Alexander the Great, to mention but a few. We remember these great men (teachers) because they left behind monumental and indelible achievements that till propel academia to persistently reference them and their works.

I implore you to use the opportunities you currently have to excel in order to leave behind remarkable and positive achievements that will make people to remember you. Once you are remembered for good, you are fulfilled and successful. As a royal father, I pray that the Lord will guide you, direct you rightly and preserve you from the perils of work so that you can improve on your performances.
