The Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, is ready to challenge the results of the 2022 governorship election in the state up to the Supreme Court level, Nationnewslead has learnt.

His lead counsel, Yomi Aliyu, SAN, disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja.

Nationnewslead reports that Oyetola, who contested the July 16 governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, had asked the tribunal in Osogbo to nullify the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Ademola Adeleke.

Adeleke was returned elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission after scoring a total of 403,371 votes to defeat the incumbent governor and 13 other candidates,

Oyetola got 375, 027 votes and won in 13 of the state’s 30 local government areas.

Adeleke’s legal team, led by Dr Alex Izinyon, SAN, had during the past week filed preliminary objections to the governor’s suit.

Reacting to this, Aliyu said, “We are arguing the case up to the Supreme Court.

“The next step is for the tribunal to slate the petition for pre-trial hearing. We will formally apply to the tribunal for that on filing our reply to their response. At the said pre-trial, the parties will agree on how to manage the little time that remains by allocating the number of days for each party’s case, allot time for examination and cross examination of witnesses, taking of exhibits, addresses of counsel and thereafter judgment of the tribunal.

“We also have 12 SANs and 50 other very senior and junior counsel.” Continue Reading
