The Oyo State Government has announced that the distribution of appointment letters to 5,600 newly recruited basic school teachers in the state will commence on Monday, January 6, 2025.

The distribution will take place at Local Government Universal Basic Education Authorities (LGUBEA) located in all local government areas across Oyo State.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, made this disclosure today during a meeting with Education Secretaries in Ibadan.

Dr. Adeniran encouraged the new teachers to be innovative and embrace modern techniques in imparting knowledge.

He reiterated the Board’s zero tolerance for examination malpractices and stated that the new teachers’ appointments would take effect from January 1, 2025.

However, he pointed out that about 12 local governments have an excess of teachers, while some are understaffed, and a redistribution will be implemented to ensure fairness and equity.

Dr. Adeniran urged the newly recruited teachers to display patriotic commitment, high integrity, and professional diligence in their duties.

“As young teachers, you are expected to be creative, adaptive, talented, and progressive. We urge you to be innovative. I therefore encourage you to be the teachers of this age and the game-changing educators for the future,” he said.

“You will be expected to contribute to our vision of revolutionizing the basic education sub-sector,” the Chairman added.

He further explained, “This is another testament to our efforts to reposition basic education in Oyo State, in line with Governor Seyi Makinde’s campaign promises, especially to rural areas that have experienced teacher shortages due to retirements and other issues.”

“The first batch of 5,600 newly recruited teachers out of 7,000 who successfully passed the rigorous recruitment process will receive their appointment letters starting Monday.”

Adeniran also revealed that the Seyi Makinde government has paid N2.5 billion as counterpart funding for the 2022 and 2023 UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects, enabling continued infrastructural development in basic and junior secondary schools.

While congratulating the new teachers, the Chairman advised them to uphold the highest professional ethics and to adhere strictly to the professional code of conduct for teachers.
