The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state has felicitated the African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc, the publishers of the Tribune newspaper titles, on the occasion of the 75th year founder anniversary stating that role played by the company in entrenching democracy and good governance in the country could not be over-emphasised.

The newspaper outfit established in 1949 by the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, is arguably the oldest surviving print news merchant in the country as it boasts of brands such as The Nigerian Tribune, Saturday Tribune and Sunday Tribune which citizens get to read everyday across Nigeria and beyond.

Oyo APC, in its felicitation message which was contained in a statement issued on Friday and made available to journalists in Ibadan by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, eulogized the management of the company for keeping the flag flying years after the demise of the founder despite many daunting challenges which have been threatening their operation and survival.

The statement read, “Over the years, the name Tribune has been associated with journalism with professionalism and results as correspondents, reporters, columnists and editors of the newspapers outfit have always put in their best to churn out quality news, articles, editorials, cartoons and other items which keep the public informed, educated and entertained while they also set agenda as brains behind the regular production of the nation’s most informative newspaper.

“On this occasion of the 75th anniversary of the newspaper outfit, we are proud to identify with the ANN Plc family and also encourage all the stakeholders to keep up the good work even as we urge them to maintain balanced reporting, responsible journalism and corporate social responsibility as this would go a long way to fulfill the dreams which Chief Awolowo had but could not realize before his transition in 1987.”
