The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State has officially flagged off its campaign today in preparation for the forthcoming local government elections scheduled for February 22, 2025.
As part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and harmonious electoral process, the President of the Ipetumodu Youth Association and Head of Community Youth Leaders across Ife North Local Government and Origbo communities, sent a message of peace to all participants in the election. Speaking on behalf of the Origbo Council of Community Youth Presidents, which includes representatives from Ipetumodu, Edunabon, Asipa, Moro, Yakooyo, Akinlalu, and Isope, the youth leader urged young people to avoid being used as agents of destruction during the elections.

“We should not approach this election as a do-or-die affair,” he said, adding that the council has engaged with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and violence-free election. He further emphasized the importance of protecting public and private properties within the local government area during the electoral process.
In his New Year message, Oba Prof. Olugbenga Joseph Oloyede, Latimogun I, the Apetumodu of Ipetumodu, also called for peace and unity among political stakeholders. Speaking at the New Year prayer session held at the Apetumodu Palace, the monarch stated, “Politics should not be a do-or-die affair. Where two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers. If elections lead to crises, development will elude such areas.” He urged everyone to embrace peace for the progress and growth of the community.
The youth leader also commended Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration for the ongoing road projects in Ife North Local Government, including the Yakooyo-Sooko Road and Akinlalu Township Road. These projects, facilitated by Hon. Abidemi Oyewusi Ireyode, the Deputy Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, have been widely appreciated by youths both at home and in the diaspora.
While acknowledging these achievements, the youth leader appealed for more developmental projects within the local government, particularly the urgent rehabilitation of the OUI-Asipa Road and other critical infrastructure. “We are Oliver Twist; we always ask for more,” he said.
The flag-off event serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to uphold peace and unity during the elections, ensuring that the process is not marred by violence or destruction but instead fosters growth and development across the local government.
