Party stakeholders from Ondo State are expected to converge at the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja on Tuesday to brainstorm on the best way to prosecute the party’s primary for the November 16 gubernatorial election.

The critical stakeholders have been invited to come and rub minds with the acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum, and other members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

This is as the party has expressed its determination to reclaim the state that it lost to the All Progressives Party (APC) in 2017.

Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary of the main opposition party, affirmed that Tuesday’s meeting is in line with the approved and published timetable and schedule of activities for the state governorship election.

The party has started to ramp up its effort to rally the people of the state, urging its members to remain focused “as the people of Ondo State look up to the PDP to rescue the state from the stranglehold of the rudderless, incompetent, and insensitive All Progressives Congress (APC) administration and entrench the much-desired transparent, development-driven, and people-oriented leadership on the platform of the PDP.”

The PDP has, meanwhile, released its timetable and schedule of activities for the Ondo State governorship election.

The National Organising Secretary of the PDP, Umar Bature, announced this in a notice placed on the notice board at the party’s national headquarters on Monday.

It shows that the party’s governorship primary will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024.

The sale of expressions of interest, nomination forms, and ad hoc forms is scheduled to take place from March 7 to March 21st.

March 25th has been set as the deadline for the submission of completed expressions of interest and ad hoc forms.

The screening of all its governorship aspirants will take place on March 27 at the national secretariat of the party, while the report of the screening exercise is expected to be submitted on March 29.

Appeals on the screening exercise have also been scheduled for April 2, while the ward congress to elect 3-man ad hoc ward delegates will take place between April 6 and April 7, followed by the ward congress appeals on April 10.

According to the released timetable, the certification of the deputy governorship candidate by the NWC of the party will take place on May 9.

May 20 has been set aside as the deadline for submitting the name of the governorship candidate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
