The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the postponement of its scheduled zonal congresses for the North-Central, South-South, and South-West regions, which were originally slated to hold on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the decision to shift the dates was taken out of respect for the victims of recent attacks in Plateau State, and to allow governors from the affected zones to fully participate in the PDP Governors’ Forum meeting scheduled for Ibadan, Oyo State, between April 13 and 14.

While the new dates for the North-Central and South-South congresses are yet to be announced, the PDP has fixed Wednesday, April 16, 2025, for the South-West Zonal Congress.

Ologunagba said, “The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has approved the postponement of the Party’s Zonal Congress in the North Central, South-South and South West Zones earlier scheduled for Saturday, April 12, 2025.

“The postponement of the Congress is in solidarity with the Governor and people of Plateau State over the recent killings in the State as well as to enable State Governors in the affected Zones to attend and fully participate in the PDP Governor’s Forum meeting scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State on Sunday, April 13 and Monday, April 14, 2025.”

In the meantime, the PDP has directed Chief Emmanuel Ogidi, who currently leads the South-South Zonal Caretaker Committee, to continue supervising the party’s affairs in the region until a new zonal executive is elected.

“The NWC urges all leaders, critical stakeholders, teeming members of the PDP, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the media, security agencies and the general public to note the postponement and be guided accordingly,” the statement concluded.
