The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has directed all traditional chiefs and leaders in the Benin Kingdom to conduct the traditional “Bisusu” ceremony to ensure a peaceful and incident-free Edo governorship election.

According to a statement from Chief Stanley Obamwonyi, the Esere of Benin, the Oba’s directive is aimed at preventing violence and electoral malpractices in the state.

The ceremony, which involves using traditional items to ward off calamity, is to be performed immediately.

Obamwonyi explained that the “Bisusu” ceremony is a ritual performed by the Benin people to drive away evil and ensure the safety and orderliness of their land.

By instructing the chiefs to carry out this ritual, the Oba is invoking traditional powers to secure a peaceful electoral process.

The ceremony will involve all traditional leaders, including Chiefs, Enigie, Ikao, Edionwere, and Igie Ohen, and is expected to be performed promptly to help ensure a smooth gubernatorial election on September 21.

With this directive, traditional leaders in the Benin Kingdom are anticipated to act swiftly and use their influence to foster a peaceful election atmosphere.
