The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLSIEC) has scheduled local government elections in the 17 councils of the state for Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
Mr. Plangji Daniel Cishak, the Commission Chairman, disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday, stating that adequate arrangements have been made to ensure a hitch-free exercise leading to the election of council chairmen.
He urged all prospective candidates to obtain nomination forms for the election into the offices of chairmen and councillors of the 17 council areas from the PLASIEC headquarters.
Mr. Plangji Daniel Cishak also called on political parties and prospective aspirants to watch out for the publication of the election notice, the release of the election timetable, and the election guidelines by July 10, 2024.
According to him, campaign activities will commence subsequently, as determined by the Commission under Sections 95–97 of the Electoral Act, 2022.

He added that other activities, such as the conduct of party primaries, resolution of disputes arising from them, and their observation by the Commission, will culminate on October 19, 2024.
“The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) wishes to notify the leadership of all political parties and the general public that elections shall be conducted in the Seventeen (17) Local Government Councils of Plateau State on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
“As a result, all prospective candidates are expected to obtain nomination forms for the election into the offices of Chairmen and Councilors of the 17 Local Government Councils from the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission.”
The Chairman urged all political parties and stakeholders to support and cooperate with PLASIEC in organizing, undertaking, and supervising a free, fair, credible, and transparent local government council election in Plateau State.
