Plateau Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections, Patrick Dakum, and the party leadership have congratulated Governor Caleb Mutfwang on his victory at the Supreme Court.

Mr Dakum, who is the chief executive officer, Institute of Human Virology Nigeria, extended his congratulations in a statement signed by his media consultant, Shabul Mazadu, on Saturday in Jos.

The 2023 governorship candidate called on Mr Mutfwang to put Plateau’s interests above all other considerations so as to move the state forward.

The former Plateau State commissioner of health and information urged the governor to be magnanimous in victory by carrying everybody along, irrespective of political party, religious, or ethnic inclination.

According to him, nothing defeats leaders as easily as impractical methods of governance and flouting campaign promises.

Mr Dakum admonished the governor to put in his best and fulfil his electioneering campaign promises to the citizens of the state.

He prayed for divine wisdom, knowledge, and understanding in Mr Mutfwang, as he settled down in earnest for the profuse task of governing the state.

Meanwhile, the Plateau chapter of the LP, in its reaction, described the Supreme Court judgement as the end of the election process that everyone must accept.

James Adara, LP state publicity secretary, told journalists on Saturday in Jos that LP had accepted the Supreme Court verdict in good faith.

Mr Adara also congratulated Mr Mutfwang and all those that the court declared winners, and he urged those who lost to team up with those who won to bring development to the state.

“All processes of the 2023 elections are over, and what is left is governance. We expect good governance and as an opposition party, we will play the role of an opposition.

“We have seen what the governor is doing in the city centre; we want to draw his attention to other local governments.

“If you are going to Bassa, for example, the by-pass has been there for years and has not been constructed.

“The contract was awarded during the tenure of former Governor Jonah Jang, and we hope that the present government will consider such roads.

“If you go to Jos East, you will see that their roads are terrible too, so the government should not just concentrate on township roads; they should look at rural roads too,’’ he advised.

The publicity secretary said that LP and indeed Plateau citizens want good and inclusive governance in the state.

He told journalists that the party is contesting the rerun election in Plateau North and called on the people to come out en masse and vote for the LP.
