Police arrest 19 suspects for various offences in Gombe

Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a total of nineteen suspects for various criminal offences including criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, theft of motor vehicle, culpable homicide, abduction and rape.

The disclosure was made by the Command PPRO, ASP Buhari Abdullahi while briefing Journalists and parading the arrested suspects at the Command headquarters in Gombe on Friday.

On criminal conspiracy and theft of motor vehicle, the PPRO said that the suspects arrested are Ibrahim Usman alias ‘Danmadama, aged 30 of Tumu village via Akko LGA Gombe while his accomplice, Muktari Mohammad alias ‘Black’ aged 35 of Shani LGA, Borno State is now at large.

According to him, “On the 4/11/2014 at about 1630hrs, a formal complaint was lodged through one Umar Mohammed of Malam-Inna quarters area of Gombe metropolis, that on the same date, at about 1600hrs he parked his vehicle make Toyota Carina wagon at Abuja-bula market to do some activities, when he returned back to where he parked, he now discovered that the vehicle was stolen by an unknown person.”

On receiving of the complaint, Police from Bojude Division formally accepted the complaint and compiled with one accident case that was also reported on the same date, where one Ibrahim Usman was brought to the Station in pool of blood that had an accident along Shongo Sarkin yaki village road.

The Police confirmed that the two cases are the same, where the above mentioned suspects criminally conspired and stole the said vehicle.

The statement read, “During the course of investigation, the suspect one, Ibrahim Usman have confessed to the alleged crime and will soon be charged to court for prosecution as a Toyota Carina wagon register number BNG 242 AA was recovered as exhibit.

“For criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, Auwal Shuaibu aged 20, Mohammad Abubakar aged 19 and Ahmad Mohammed aged 20yrs all of Kumbiya-kumbiya quarters, Gombe LGA were arrested.

“On the 02/11/2024 at about 1700hrs, a formal complaint was received through one Hamisu Shuaibu aged 17 of Kumbiya-kumbiya quarters, that some unknown persons suspected to be Kalare boys criminally conspired among themselves and robbed him of his Handset, Tecno CAMON 15.

“On receipt of the complaint, Operation Hattara swung into action and rushed to the scene and the above mentioned suspects were arrested in connection to the alleged crime.

“During interrogation, the said suspects were found in possession of the said Handset and have voluntarily confessed to their crime and will soon be charged court for prosecution.”

The PPRO added that for the offence of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, Bello Galadima, Babangida Bello aged 27, Abubakar Bello aged 25 and Hamisu Bello ‘m’ aged 23yrs all of Lembi village via Akko LGA were arrested.

He said, “On the 31/10/2024 at about 1945hrs, a formal complaint was received that his children, one Mohammed Mahiru aged 20, Ibrahim Mahiru aged 13 and their friends, Abubakar Mohammed aged 21, Auwal Umar aged 20, Ibrahim Mohammed Kakale 22 all of Gona village via Akko LGA of Gombe State went for grazing around Lembi village.

“They intentionally driven their animals in one cassava farm belonging to one Bello Galadima of Lembi village who was farming with his children, one Babangida Bello aged 27, Abubakar Bello aged 25, Hamisu Bello aged 23, all of Lembi village via Akko LGA of Gombe State.

“On sighting the cows grazing beside their farmland, they got angry and engaged the herder in a fight with sticks and machetes, as a result one of the herders, one Mohammed Mahiru sustained deep cut injury on his head and fell down unconscious while one Hamisu Bello, son of the farmer sustained internal body injury.

“On receipt of the complaint, Police from Akko division led Divisional Police Officer, CSP Chama Yakubu drafted to the scene and rushed the victims to the General Hospital Kumo for medical attention.

“One Hamisu Bello treated and admitted while one Mohammed Mahiru was confirmed dead by a medical doctor. During interrogation the said suspects confessed to their crime and will soon be charged to court for prosecution.”

He added that for criminal conspiracy, theft and receiving stolen property, Muhammed Ahmed Babayo 30, custodian of the stolen motorcycle, Abubakar Musa 32 receiver,

He said, “On the 26/11/2024 at about 1830hrs base on credible intelligence, information received by Divisional Police Officer, CSP Safiyanu Sa’idu, DPO Gombe Divisional Headquarters, that on the same date, one Jibirin Abdullahi of Dawaki quarters Gombe LGA of Gombe State was arrested in connection to the above mentioned case.

“During interrogation, the suspect revealed that the above mentioned suspects were involved in series of criminally conspired and assisted him in committing the crime in these locations.

“Babayo Gonin Dogo Ruwa Kaltungo LGA at farmland in the day time using it for Okada with Plate Number KLT240UY, Bayo LGA, Borno State market on Sunday 26/10/2024 with Plate Number NFD043QE, Kwami Road at farmland, Bayan Garin Kalshingi Akko LGA close to Kalshigi Primary school, sold at N230,000.00, the suspects confessed to their crime and will soon be charged to court.

“Also for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, the Command arrested Umar Abubakar Alias Doguwa 20, Mustapha Da’u Alais Lagu 16 and Abdullahi Ahmed 18 all of Hayin Kwarin Misau, Akko LGA of Gombe State while Huzaifa Zakari is at Large.

“On 1/11/2024 the above-mentioned suspects, armed themselves with cutlass and scissors and started attacking some persons along bye-pass, Tabra quarters including one shop owner.

“Later on, on the same date, some group of vigilantes arrested the above-mentioned suspects except Huzaifa Zakari who is now at large and brought them to Gona Division where the suspects were transferred to SWAT for further investigation.

“The suspects confessed to have committed the alleged crime and will soon be charged to court while Exhibits recovered from them included cutlass and scissors.

“Also arrested for abduction and rape was Hassan Muhammad, 28 years whose case of abduction and rape was reported to the Commissioner of Police by one Malam Ibrahim Sani of Kufayi village via Kwami LGA Gombe state against the above-mentioned suspect to the CP monitoring unit for discreet investigation.

“That on 19/10/2024, the suspect went to his house to seek for his daughter’s hand in marriage, one Zaliha Ibrahim, aged 16year, he then told him to give him some time before he makes his decision but pon learning such, the suspect deceived and took the girl to Kano State without the consent of her parents.

“A team of detectives from CP monitoring unit swung into action to kano State Police Command and to Hisbah Commission where tracking analysis was conducted on the suspect’s phone number revealed his location.

“The victim confessed to have had canal knowledge of the victim in his house located at Kano state and that he took her to Hisbah Commission to get them married, the case will soon be charged to court for prosecution.

“In view of the above, the Commissioner of Police CP Hayatu Usman advised the general public to be wary of such criminal elements and should always report any complain direct to the Police Division nearest to them.

“However the command is informing members of the public to be vigilant of their properties when at farmland and we are calling on the people that heard about this press briefing to pass it to other and the owners of the said motorcycles to come forward in order to identify and claim their vehicles.”
