The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police has announced the arrest of a 31-year-old fashion designer, Charles Ezeribe, on allegations of engaging in homosexual activities. His alleged accomplice, Kelvin Ibizugbe, a 28-year-old music promoter, is currently evading arrest after narrowly escaping a mob attack.
According to authorities, the incident took place in a residential building located around Chevron Drive in the Lekki area of the state. Ezeribe was apprehended by police on Saturday, August 20, 2022, around 6:00pm at his apartment in Bera Estate, Chevron Drive.
The police have pledged to apprehend Kelvin Ibizugbe and pursue legal action against Charles Ezeribe in accordance with Nigeria’s laws against same-sex relationships.
CSP Adejobi, the Police Public Relations Officer, expressed concern over the rising reports of homosexuality-related crimes, emphasizing the importance of upholding the country’s traditions and laws.
Detailing the arrest, DSP Adejobi stated, “On August 20, 2022, at approximately 18:00 hours, officers from the Lekki Divisional Patrol Team responded to urgent calls from residents of Bera Estate, Chevron Drive, leading to the apprehension of Charles Ezeribe. His partner, Kelvin Ibizugbe, fled the scene upon the arrival of the police.”
A landlord identified as Joseph reportedly caught the suspects in the act and raised an alarm, prompting neighbors to intervene. Joseph claimed to have observed suspicious behavior from Kelvin and Charles, including witnessing them kissing on a balcony on a previous occasion.
Authorities conducted a search of the premises but found no illegal items. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
