…deploy more personnel to maintain law, order
Following the April 5 attack on Aagba Community in Surulere Local Government Area, the Oyo State Police Command has arrested Salawudeen Ismaila, aged 33, a native of the neighbouring Oko community, along with eight other suspects.
In addition, three unregistered Boxer motorcycles were recovered.
Confirming the arrest on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Johnson O. Adenola, swiftly deployed the Command’s specialised intelligence and tactical units, including a contingent of Police Mobile Force (PMF) officers, to the village to ensure public safety following the recent incidents.
It is worth recalling that last Saturday’s attack led to the burning of nine houses, with property worth millions of Naira either looted or destroyed.
Furthermore, a septuagenarian, Madam Rachael Bamidele, died as a result of the attack.
Information gathered by the Nigerian Tribune indicated that the burning, looting, and destruction of property appeared to have been calculated and systematically executed to target individuals involved in ongoing civil litigation over the disputed land.
It was further reported that the incident, which forced residents to desert the village, was allegedly perpetrated by inhabitants of a neighbouring community over a long-standing land dispute.
In a statement, the PPRO said: “This prompt response brought about a restoration of normalcy, allowing villagers to return to their homes and resume daily activities without fear of harassment or intimidation.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other known suspects who remain at large. The indicted suspects will soon appear in court.”
The Command reaffirmed its zero-tolerance approach to acts of brigandage or any other actions that undermine the efforts of the state government and security agencies, threatening the peace and tranquillity of residents.
It also condemned any acts of self-help by individuals or groups in venting their grievances, while assuring law-abiding residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property through measures aimed at addressing violations of law and order.
