The police in Niger State have arrested three suspects in the Shiroro local government area of the state over allegations of conspiracy, trespass, vandalisation and theft of earth cables belonging to North-South Powers Ltd. (NSP Ltd), owners of the Shiroro Hydro Hydropower Dam within the Council Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the State Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, stated this in a press statement made available to the newsmen on Friday in Minna, adding that the three suspects, including Nura Garba, 28 years old, Isiya Haruna, 20 years old, and Sale Mohammed, 20 years old, are all from Zumba community in Shiroro Local Government Area of the state.

According to Abiodun, the suspects were arrested on November 1, 2023, at about 10:00 a.m. following an incident of vandalism and theft of earth cables at NSP Ltd., Shiroro. He added that the case was reported at the Police Area Command, Shiroro, stressing that on October 20, 2023, at about 10:30 a.m., unknown persons trespassed into the NSP transmission site, vandalised, and carted away some earth cables to an unknown destination.

The image maker of the state police command said that during the investigation with credible intelligence, the following suspects were arrested: Nura Garba, 28 years old; Isiya Haruna, 20 years old; and Sale Mohammed, 21 years old, all of Zumba, Shiroro local government area of the state.

The statement further revealed that the suspects allegedly confessed to the crime and were quoted as saying that they sold some of the earth wires at the rate of forty-seven thousand naira to one Mainasara and one Shehu, who was said to have escaped arrest by the police officers, stressing that both suspected stolen goods receivers were presently at large.

The PPRO said the case was still under investigation by the police, assuring that when the fleeing suspects were arrested and the investigation was concluded, the suspects would be arraigned in court and their trial would commence.
