The police in Sokoto have arrested two suspects in connection to the Sokoto village market attack that claimed the lives of six persons in Kiri, Gada local government area of Sokoto.
The Sokoto State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Ahmad Rufai revealed this to our correspondent in a telephone conversation.
Recall that Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the killing of six persons in a clash between suspected bandits and vigilantes, locally known as Yan Sakai in Gada local government area of Sokoto.
The vigilantes according to source in the area were said to have avenged the killing of their leader, one Alhaji Dahiru by a suspected bandit.
The incident according to eyewitnesses started when a leader of the Gidan Hashimu village Vigilantes made a move to arrest and interrogate a notorious cattle rustler seen loitering in the Market, the move was resisted by the Fulanis group around the market.
The PPRO said the suspects were arrested with some exhibits including three cows and a Dane gun.
According to him, the suspects who are from Sabon Garin Dole in Goronyo Local government area of Sokoto state have all confessed to the commission of the crime.
In related development, the police said they are investigating the alleged killing of an armed robbery suspect who was allegedly killed by a mob in the Old Airport axis of Sokoto.
Sources in the community said a mob action led to the death of a suspected armed robber who invaded the community with two other suspects now at large.
A source said the police embarked on indiscriminate arrest of suspects believed to be part of the mob that killed the robbery suspects including passersby.
But the Police spokesman when contacted said community leaders from Old Airport have communicated with the police authority and the police will take necessary action after concluding investigation on the matter.
