The Imo State Police Command has intensified search for the killers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward chairman of Ife/ Akpodim/Chokoneze ward in the Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of the state, Chiedoziem Anyanwu who was assassinated by fleeing gunmen.
The Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Danjuma Aboki who confirmed the incident to the Nigerian Tribune in Owerri on Saturday, said that the command is already on the matter.
He said that the command has deployed the personnel from both the Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Robbery units of the Imo State Police Command to Okigwe in search of the killers of the slain PDP ward chairman.
The ward chairman Anyanwu was shot dead on Thursday by gunmen operating on a motorcycle right in his house
Sources said that Anyanwu was trailed by his killers to his house where they mentioned his name and requested to see him.
His wife immediately called him that some people were looking for him and he quickly came out to see those looking for him
The very moment he came out, the gunmen identified that he was the one, they shot him dead before his wife
They made sure he was dead before they fled the scene.
An eyewitness said that the development has brought an uneasy calm with the fold of the PDP in the state.
According to him, the slain party chairman was vibrant and nobody knew why he was killed.
