Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba has approved the continual training of personnel of the Nigeria Police Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD-CBRN) Command.

A statement on Tuesday by Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi said the measure is part of efforts to secure Nigeria.

The Police is working with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Nuclear Smuggling, Detection, and Deterrence (NSDD).

No fewer than thirty EOD-CBRN operatives already undergone a two-week capacity building workshop for.

The training has enhanced their capacity to detect illicit trafficking of radioactive materials and secondary inspection techniques to foil threats.

The new nomenclature for the EOD Command is “Explosive Ordnance Disposal-Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Defence (EOD-CBRN)” in line with the recently approved Force Order 472.

The unit has received 5 Mobile Detection System (MDS) vans, with 2 spare parts and maintenance kits, 3 Radio-isotope Identification Devices (RIDs).

Others are 3 PackEye Radiation Detection Backpacks, 3 Radiation Survey Meters and 7 Sensor Technology Radiation Pagers.

The IGP ordered that the equipment be strategically deployed to critical infrastructures and threatened areas.

This is expected to improve Nigeria’s nuclear security architecture in early detection, analysis and reporting of radioactive materials out of regulatory control. Continue Reading
