Three suspected kidnappers have been arrested by the police in Lagos State, and the 25-year-old victim has been rescued.
The suspects are Edem Chuks, Oluwatobi Adeniji, and Emmanuel Ebere.
The victim was abducted around Oke Moro in the Ishashi area, where the abductors forced him to transfer over one million naira from his account.
The kidnappers had already collected N2 million ransom from the victim’s mother. Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson, confirmed the abduction and the arrest of the suspects to the Nigerian Tribune.
“On 27/08/24 at about 12:00 hours, Ishashi Division received a distress call from concerned citizens that some hoodlums had kidnapped an unknown person at Oke Moro Ishashi. A team of policemen, led by the DPO, immediately raced to the scene where one male victim, aged 25 years, was rescued,” said the police spokesperson.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects, after beating the victim, requested two million naira ransom, which his mother paid through two different accounts.
The suspects also collected the sum of N1 million from the victim’s bank accounts through mobile transfer. The victim was also reportedly dispossessed of his International Passport and other valuable items.
Hundeyin also told the Nigerian Tribune that efforts had begun to arrest other members of the gang.
