As the political landscape in Osun State evolves and preparations for the next elections intensify, all eyes are on Former Governor Gboyega Oyetola. As a keen observer of the state’s political dynamics and someone with a strong affinity for the All Progressives Congress (APC), I am compelled to highlight a pivotal moment in the party’s journey. While I am not a member of the APC, my admiration for its ideals and its impacts on governance fuels my interest in the decisions of its key stakeholders. Former Governor Gboyega Oyetola now stands at a crossroads, and his timely decision on whether to contest in the forthcoming elections is crucial, not only for his personal political trajectory but also for the broader fortunes of the Party and its supporters in State.

1. TO CONSOLIDATE THE PARTY’S STRATEGY
The APC is a party with diverse interests, and timely decisions from its leaders are essential for effective planning. If Governor Oyetola intends to contest, his early declaration will enable the party to rally around him, build a strong campaign team, and align resources towards a cohesive goal. Conversely, if he chooses not to run, the party will need time to identify and groom a viable alternative. Uncertainty at this stage could create divisions and weaken the party’s structure.

2. TO AVOID LOSING MOMENTUM AMONG SUPPORTERS
Oyetola remains a respected leader with a strong support base in Osun State. His followers are eager to know his plans so they can channel their energy appropriately. Prolonged silence or indecision could demoralize his supporters, causing a loss of momentum that might be difficult to regain. A clear stance will keep his base motivated and ready to work towards electoral victory.

3. TO CAPITALIZE ON THE CURRENT POLITICAL CLIMATE
The political atmosphere in Osun State is dynamic, and opportunities must be seized promptly. Oyetola’s decision will significantly shape the narratives surrounding the forthcoming elections. An early declaration will allow him to set the tone, engage stakeholders, and counter the strategies of opposition parties effectively. Delayed action, on the other hand, may give opponents the upper hand in framing the narrative.

4. TO DEMONSTRATE LEADERSHIP AND RESOLVE
Leadership is not just about holding office but also about making timely and decisive moves that inspire confidence. Oyetola’s legacy as a Former Governor positions him as a key figure in the state’s political discourse. However, his ability to make a quick and resolute decision will reinforce his reputation as a focused and dependable leader. Indecision, in contrast, could be perceived as a lack of preparedness or determination.

5. TO MINIMIZE INTERNAL PARTY DISPUTES
The longer Oyetola delays his decision, the greater the risk of internal conflicts within the APC. Ambitious individuals within the party may begin to push their agendas in the absence of clear leadership, leading to factions and weakening the party’s unity. A prompt decision will provide clarity and direction, minimizing the potential for discord.

Former Governor Gboyega Oyetola must recognize that time is of the essence. His decision, whether to contest or not, will shape the future of Osun State politics and the fortunes of the APC. By acting decisively and promptly, he will not only solidify his position as a leader but also strengthen the party’s chances of reclaiming power. In politics, hesitation can be costly, and the time to act is now. A stich in time saves nine.
