It was excitement and fun in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital recently at the second edition of KidsCon where children and youths had a rendezvous with the state governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji.
The second Ekiti KidsCon was an avenue through which Governor Oyebanji and his wife, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji put smiles on the faces of children in the state and also give assurance of their continued support for all children across the state.
Speaking at the event, Governor Oyebanji and his wife, Dr Olayemi assured that the present administration in the state would continue to do everything possible to ensure that good governance extends to the grassroots.
Oyebanji, who spoke through the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Adedayo Gold Adesola, said KidsCon was one of the laudable programmes specially designed by the Oyebanjis to carry children along in their administration in Ekiti.
He said: “This is the 2nd edition and the feedback about the first one we held last was very impressive because looking at the number of registered schools which participated in this edition, one would say it’s a welcome development to the kids. The excitement and accolades were massive and the governor has given his approval that the show will continue to hold throughout his administration.”
Participants were drawn from the 16 local governments and LCDAs and involved all the registered and approved public and private schools in the state where over 1,500 beneficiary pupils were in attendance.
Over 1,000 children received special school bag gifts from the governor last year during the maiden edition.
Speaking with newsmen, the coordinator of the program, Mrs. Funmi Bankole, specially thanked Governor Oyebanji for the program which she said had been one of the ways to bring joy and renew the hope of the participants.
While commending the various giant strides of the governor, she promised not to let Ekiti kids down in the subsequent editions. She said the event tagged: “Ekiti Children Fun Time with BAO has again been written in gold in the hearts of the beneficiaries.”
The 2024 event was held at the Obafemi Awolowo Civic Centre in Ado-Ekiti and had in attendance stakeholders in the education sector, political office holders, captains of industry, party chieftains and a lot more, while all the children who could not hide their joy went home with lunch box materials as gifts from the governor.
