The Kogi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Monday Anyebe has urged the youths to get prepared to take over political leadership of the state as they are no longer leaders of tomorrow but today.

The commissioner gave the charge at the grand finale of the youth summit held in Lokoja, kogi state capital.

The commissioner noted that the age long cliche’ of the youths are only good for tomorrow leadership no longer hold waters, as the current narrative of the country has placed leadership responsibilities on the youths.

He said, the youth who are imbued with mental and physical energies have been the key drivers of economic, technological and political sectors of all the emerged countries of the world , saying the summit was to inspire the youth of kogi to arm themselves for the task ahead.

Anyebe commended the youths for their resilience in these hard times, stressing that their matured dispositions to present predicaments signified that they were prepared to take back their role as leaders.

He said any nation that undermines the power of the youths does so at its peril, stressing that Governor Ododo has been working hard to improve the livelihoods of the young persons across the state.

He disclosed that Governor Ododo would not take the youths for granted as his policies and programmes in ICT, Agriculture, youth development,and his recent appointment of over 80% youths in his cabinet were all directed at enhancing the welfare and well-beings of youths of kogi state.

In a remark, the guest lecturer of the 2 day summit, Professor Rotimi Ajayi disclosed that Governor Ododo has deliberately engaged youths for positive change that made them a contributor to the development of the state rather than engaging in protest .

He informed that kogi state is blessed with abundant mineral resources deposited across the state and qualitative human capital who are eager to drive the state economy to desired destination.

Professor Ajayi added that in his commitment to improve the lives of the Young persons in the state, Governor Ododo has to approve the hosting of the 2day submit to discuss ways of unlocking the embedded potentials of the youth, with the challenge for them to productively get involved in the governance of the state.

He called on the youth not to tinker with education as some people may call education a scam , but to strive harder to ensure they acquire necessary education to make them relevant in the dynamic and fast changing world.

He warned against indulgence in social vices of whatever guise and to focus on the integrity of hard work and perseverance in order to move the state forward.

While thanking Gov’ Ododo for approving the summit for the youth of the state to discuss issues that concerns their growth and development at a time that some youths in other states were enmeshed in protest was a testament to his foresight and forthrightness.

He, however, charged the youths to keep up with social relationships with the government to fast track development of the state.

In attendance were members of National Youths Council NYSCN of Nigeria, past and present leaderships, National Association of NIgerian Students, NANS, National Association of Kogi state Students NAKOSS.
