PRESIDENTIAL candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu; vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and the governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, bowed to the superior political power of Peter Obi-led Labour Party (LP) in their respective states.
Obi also swept Plateau and Nasarawa states, performed creditably in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Taraba and some others.
The LP candidate topped the presidential election chat in Lagos State with 582,442 votes with the APC trailing with 576,606 votes.
Also, the party secured a seat at the green chamber of the National Assembly with the defeat of the son of a chieftain of the APC, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.
The outstanding performance has re-written the age-long political history of Lagos State.
The victory wave of the party hit Delta State with Okowa losing in his bid to win the state for the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Okowa, as a sitting governor and vice-presidential candidate of the party, could not garner enough votes to secure the victory for PDP.
In Edo State, the LP put an end to the dominance and influence of Governor Obaseki.
Political experience of the likes of Senator Jonah Jang and others could also not stop the moving train of the LP in Plateau state as the party coasted to victory comfortably with more than a million votes.
In Benue State where a notable member of G5 and governor, Samuel Ortom, lost his bid for the Senator to the APC opponent, the LP made a serious in-road, coming second to the APC with a slight margin.
As of the time of writing this report, the party had also recorded victory in Enugu.
Obi also recorded a landmark victory in Nasarawa State, polling 191,361 to defeat Tinubu, who polled 172,922 and Atiku, who polled 147,093.
Presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku, recorded victory in major strongholds of the APC in the North. He also secured victory in Akwa Ibom State.
Atiku polled a total of 214,012, followed by the APC candidate, Senator Tinubu, who scored 160,620 votes, even as the candidate of LP came third with 132,683 votes.
Results of National Assembly election showed the PDP candidates, Honourable Aniekan Bassey and Honourable Ekong Sampson them winning in Uyo and Eket senatorial districts respectively, while APC candidate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, won in Ikot Ekpene senatorial district.
in Yobe, a stronghold of the APC, the PDP, for the first time since 1999, defeated the APC, polling 196,567, with Tinubu trailing with 151,459.
The same situation was reported in Gombe, another APC stronghold, as Atiku coasted to victory with 319,123 votes, to defeat Tinubu, who polled 146,977.
Katsina, the home state of President Muhammadu Buhari, Atiku won, also for the first time, as he claimed a slight win over Tinubu, polling 489,045, with Tinubu trailing with 482,283.
In Benue, Tinubu won the election, recording victory in nine of the 23 local government areas of the state while LP won in 14 councils.
Tinubu got his bulk from Zone A and B, the senatorial districts of the APC governorship candidate, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia and former governor, Senator George Akume, respectively.
Announcing the results, the collation officer for the election, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, announced that the APC polled 310,468; LP, 308,372 and PDP, 130,081.
Tinubu also won in Oyo and Ogun states, as announced by the INEC on Monday. The APC presidential candidate polled 341,554 votes in Ogun to defeat Atiku, who polled 123,831 votes.
In Oyo, Tinubu also recorded victory with 449,884 votes to defeat his closest rival, Atiku, who polled 182,977 votes.
Presidential candidate of New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP), Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, defeated Tinubu in 36 out of 44 local government areas of Kano State, polling 1,179,889 votes.
Tinubu marshalled his highest votes in Kano, though he came second as he polled 773,528 votes, with Atiku and Obi trailing with 143,213 and 1,300 votes respectively.
