Primary school pupil arrested with gun in Akwa Ibom

Samuel Sunday, a 13-year-old male Pupil of St. Paul Primary School, Ikot Ibiok in Eket Local government area of Akwa Ibom State was on Wednesday paraded by the state Police Command for threatening fellow pupils with a locally made pistol in the school.

Parading the suspect with his father, among other criminal suspects at the State Police headquarters, Ikot Akpan-Abia, Uyo, the Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John said the suspect was arrested following a distress call by the school authority, as he was seen threatening other pupils with it.

She said the police acting on the intelligence information, swiftly swung into action, arrested the suspect and his father and recovered the pistol, adding that investigations were ongoing.

She said, “On 30/01/2025 at about 0800 hrs based on credible information at the Command’s disposal, that on 28/01/2025 one Samuel Sunday “m” of Ikot Ibiok village in Eket LGA, a 13-year-old pupil of St. Paul Primary School, Ikot Ibiok in Eket LGA was going armed in the school and threatening to fire at his fellow pupils.

“The operatives of the Command immediately swung into action and arrested the suspect and recovered a locally made pistol.

“On interrogation, the suspect confessed that he has been with the said gun since November 2024 and that he got the gun from a wardrobe in his father’s bedroom. The father was later arrested. Investigation is still ongoing.”

The command also paraded one Roseline Maurice ‘f’ and One Eno Udoka ‘f’ for conspiring and stealing a child at Obong Itam village in Itu LGA sometime in the month of June 2024 and sold the victim for the sum of N200,000 (Two hundred thousand Naira) to their regular receiver in Cross River State.

The suspects were said to have used the money to purchase a refrigerator, television, and fan, among others.

The police said all the items have been recovered from them. John also paraded child trafficking syndicates that lure young girls into having affairs with men who eventually get them pregnant and the babies sold for fat sums of money.

“In another development, on 01/02/2025 at about 0800hr based on a complaint from two young girls 18 yrs of age that one woman attempted to traffic them to Cross River State for them to have affair with men and get pregnant in order to sell the babies and share the money, operatives of the command swung into action and arrested one Gift Essien Tommy ‘f’ and one Peace Ekanem ‘f’”. Timfon said.

The command also paraded a 60-year-old man who defiled a nine-year-old girl in a bush and gave her two hundred Naira afterwards.
John said all the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

Also, 25 year old Anietimfon Anietie Eyo was paraded for defiling a young lady of 17yrs (name withheld). “On the 30/01/2025, operatives of the Command arrested One Anietimfon Anietie Eyo, ‘m’ 25yrs old of Afaha Offiong village in Nsit Ibom LGA The victim reported that she was forcefully dragged to a nearby bush by the suspect and he forcefully had carnal knowledge of her, tore her clothes and panties. Suspect will be charged to court accordingly.

She added that the Command led by Commissioner Baba Mohammed Azare, will never relent in its effort to rid the State of all crimes and criminalities, urging the public to continue to support with useful information and prayers for them to succeed. “If you see something say something and the Command will do something,” she concluded.
