Vice President, West Africa, Pan-African Youth Union (PYU), Amb. Oladele Nihi has urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritise well-being of West African youth during his tenure as Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Recall Tinubu was named ECOWAS Chairman during the 63rd Ordinary Session of the regional bloc held in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, on Sunday.

Speaking from his PYU office in Abuja, Amb Oladele Nihi commended President Tinubu for his successful outing at the recent ECOWAS Leaders summit, emphasising the significance of this achievement, which “showcases President Tinubu’s exceptional leadership acumen and reinforces Nigeria’s commitment to regional integration and cooperation”.

“The Pan-African Youth Union, West Africa, fully supports President Tinubu’s tenure as ECOWAS Chairman, believing that his wealth of experience, dedication, and vision will contribute significantly to the advancement of ECOWAS and the well-being of its member countries,” he said.

Addressing the pressing issue of youth empowerment and development, Amb Oladele Nihi recommended the importance of policies that promote youth employment and holistic growth.

He also urged the new ECOWAS Chairman not to overlook this critical need, asserting that West African youths hold immense potential and must be meaningfully included in decision-making processes and socio-economic development.

“The Pan-African Youth Union calls upon President Tinubu to champion initiatives that prioritise access to quality education, vocational training, entrepreneurship support, and job creation for the youth across ECOWAS member states,” he added.

In his closing remarks, Amb Oladele extended his best wishes to President Tinubu, adding that his tenure will bring about substantial progress and opportunities for the youth in West Africa.
