Five officials of Nigeria Correctional Service narrowly escaped being lynched in Osogbo, Osun state capital on Thursday by irate mob for leaving two persons injured after their vehicle ran into a Commercial minibus transportation vehicle leaving two seriously injured.

The infuriated residents who went berserk against the act of the officials who violated traffic light that stopped their vehicles at Olaiya junction in the town before hitting the transportation vehicle were about to launch an attack on them before the timely intervention of the state police command which appealed to the embittered crowd to water down their grief and temper justice with mercy.

The injured victims of the accident were the driver of the minibus and a woman passenger who sustained both legs and head injuries while one of the warders was also said to be wounded during the incident that occurred in the early hours of the day.

The people around the scene who were mostly youths caused traffic jam that led to hindering of both vehicular and human movements as they held the prison officials hostage and disallowed them from leaving the accident scene for about two hours before the intervention of the police.

After the intervention, the people compelled them to take the injured victims to the hospital and offset their hospital bills and as at the time of filing in this report, the wounded ones are being attended to medically.

Speaking on the accident, an eyewitness who identified himself as Aderogba Adesola traced the cause to prison officials who remained deviant by driving recklessly without obeying the traffic light that stopped their vehicles while in motion before crashing with the minibus.

Meanwhile, it was later gathered that the officials were taking prisoners to the state High Court and trying to meet up with time in court before causing the accident.
