A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) and former Chief Whip of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, who represented the people of Nembe Constituency 1, Hon. Dr Jonathan R. Obuebite, has called on the Federal government and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to probe the police involvement and other notable politicians on the recent attack on Nembe community.

Dr Obuebite while given an eyewitness account of the incident, disclosed that several people were injured, 2 persons lost their lives and properties destroyed.

He said every indication shows that the police team provided cover for thugs working with notable politicians who wants to take control of the community as their base to lunch mayhem on Nembe city and other communities because of the November 11th elections.

He, however, expressed total displeasure over what he described as a heinous crime and grave sin against God and mankind.

He further stated that the issues in Nembe Bassambiri are being caused by those who perpetrated the February 15th attack that took the lives of three persons in the community with a ploy to take over the community and ensure they use it as a base for their political activities.

“What is happening in Nembe today is politically motivated and targeted at destroying the peace that the Prosperity administration led by His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri has brought to the LGA.

“The history of political crisis and chasing and killing of people in Nembe Bassambiri perpetrated by the same actors did not start today and must be curtailed once and for all.

The former lawmaker, Dr Obuebite, called on the Inspector General of Police to first, call his men to order and properly investigated the complicity of his men with thugs who are known supporters of the APC candidate.

He further stated that from the 12th of August, precisely Saturday when they arrived in Nembe Bassambiri, they have been crossing to Nembe City to terrorise the community and residence of notable leaders in Nembe City including Amasarapolo the compound of the immediate past deputy governor of the state, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah.

“The harassment, tea gassing and sporadic shooting in Nembe city, clearly shows that there is an already planned mission to chase, kill and maim perceived political opponents who do not believe in their attitude of always causing crisis and killing people whenever there is another circle of elections.

He said the attack and vandalisation of the residence of Chief Amabebe Ikiba and that of the Nembe city Youth President on Wednesday 16th is a clear show of political intimidation.

That the officers of the SWAT team are raising false alarms to enable them to enter terrorise and intimidate the people of Nembe City, which is not part of their mission.

He said when the Deputy Governor led members of the State Security Council to Nembe and questioned why they entered Nembe City, the DCP leading the team claimed that they got a call that the Nembe Police Station was under attack which is why they entered and the CP Bayelsa State said how come he was not aware and the DPO under attack too did not witness any attack and was not aware of it too.

Obuebite, calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and a true democrat to ensure that they do Justice and should not allow people to destroy the democratic reputation that he has brought into governance.

“President Bola Tinubu should take action immediately, as someone who has fought for the rule of law and democratic governance to prevent people who want to have control over a community from carrying out their devilish activities that have caused coerces and unrest in Nembe LGA.

“Mr President should not allow the interest of one politician to destroy his hard-earned political reputation that has kept him afloat as a true democrat.

Finally, he called on all sons and daughters of Nembe kingdom to embrace peace, allow peace to reign and understand that these politicians have never attracted any meaningful project or program from Abuja to Nembe Kingdom, but rather kept their hometown Okpoama in peace while they keep ours in crisis.

“The circle of politics, and elections will end on November 11th and immediately after that circle, we will still be living as brothers, therefore, we shouldn’t allow politicians whose only desire is to grab power to use us to destroy ourselves,” he noted.
