A former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Martin Luther Agwai has said that the problems of justice, fairness and equity have continued to escalate and heighten insecurity in the country.
Agwai spoke in Kaduna on Friday at the sidelines of a National Summit organized by the House of Justice with the theme, ‘Security, Justice and National Reorientation’.

He said “if we are not careful, insecurity may become part of our survival. But, if we do something very urgent, about it things would definitely change for good.”
He noted that the federal government must fight the current challenges of insecurity, and put an end to the problem so that it will not destroy the nation’s path to development and growth in the society.
Agwai, however, explained that “the reports we have been getting about insecurity is not the same today; because there is no more news.
“Security is our responsibility, all of us. And there are so many factors that affect security. If we address those issues then insecurity will stop.
“The issues of justice, fairness and equity are fundamental. And with the efforts the States and Federal Government have put in place, I am sure insecurity in Nigeria will be addressed.”
Meanwhile, the convener of the summit and Chief Executive of the House of Justice, Gloria Ballason said that “in 2014, that is 10 years ago, Nigeria ranked the second in the global terrorism index”, stressing that “today, Nigeria ranked 8th”.
According to her, “It doesn’t mean that there is a significant change. But, it shows, we are moving forward. Where we are now is not where we ought to be. We don’t have a capacity problem, we actually have a will challenge.
“There is also a situation where some people feel that insecurity is business. But, we are saying in the House of Justice that the issue of insecurity is a zero-sum game. Nobody benefits from it.”
