The University of Benin has appointed a professor of constitutional law and governance, Edoba Omoregie, as the new vice chancellor of the university.
Prof. Shaibu Umaru, Chairman of the Governing Council of the university, announced the appointment on Friday in Benin.
Umaru said Omoregie emerged as the 11th vice chancellor of the university out of the 27 that applied for the coveted seat.
The Nigerian Tribune reports that the new vice chancellor, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), would take over from the incumbent, Prof. Lillian Salami, whose tenure ends on Dec 1.
Born on April 5, 1969, Prof. Omoregie is a native of Benin and attended the University of Benin for his first, second, and third degrees.
He was called to the Nigerian bar in 1992 and conferred with the prestigious senior advocate of Nigeria in 2021.
