The Ondo State gubernatorial election is just around the corner, and five candidates have emerged as front-runners. Let’s take a closer look at each of them:
1. Lucky Aiyedatiwa (APC)
As the incumbent governor, Aiyedatiwa took office after Rotimi Akeredolu’s death in December 2023. He hails from Ilaje Local Government Area and holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Liverpool.
2. Agboola Ajayi (PDP)
A former deputy governor, Ajayi seeks to capitalise on his experience and connections. Born in Kiribo Town, Ese Odo LGA, he holds a Law degree from Igbinedion University.
3. Chief Sola Ebiseni (LP)
A seasoned Nigerian politician and lawyer, Ebiseni boasts a strong track record of public service. Born in 1962, he hails from Ado Odo in Ondo and promises to bring free and qualitative education to primary and secondary schools if elected.
4. Akingboye Benson Bamidele (SDP)
As an engineer and businessman, Bamidele vows to transform Ondo’s economy. From Akure North LGA, he has extensive private sector experience.
5. Nejo Adeyemi (ADC)
A lawyer committed to social justice, Nejo was part of the team that supported Governor Rotimi Akeredolu during his trials. His dedication to public service and community development makes him a notable contender.
These five candidates will face off on November 16. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the final list of candidates, which includes 17 governorship candidates and their running mates. Who will emerge victorious? Only time will tell.
