The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), in partnership with Voluntary Aid Initiative (VAI), has conducted a community town hall meeting in Zamfara North to promote advocacy, sensitisation and awareness creation of citizen participation and ownership of the AGILE project in the area.
Speaking during the opening of the town hall meeting, the executive director, VAI, Ambassador Musa Umar Aboki disclosed stakeholders from three local government areas that includes Zurmi, Shinkafi, Birnin Magaji, and Kaura Namoda were in attendance.
The executive director emphasised the need for the participation of local government stakeholders such as community leaders, religious leaders, School Base management committee members, women groups, youth groups and persons with disability to join hand with AGILE to achieve the project goal in the state.
Musa further reiterated VAI commitment in providing enabling environment for girls towards achieving a better life through quality education, empowerment program and mentorship.
“There are various components of AGILE programs that included conditional cash transfer,live skills program, second chance education, renovation of selected schools among others,” he explained.
In her remarks, the Zamfara state chairperson of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Jamila Kanoma advised parents and care givers to allow their daughters to be enrol to school for the benefit of the society.
“To educate a woman is like you educate the society, as women are the bedrock of every society,” she said.
Also Speaking, Murtala Iliyasu coordinator of a civil society working in promoting education in state,lauded the efforts of stakeholders,which he assured of continue given support to build a favorable society for women and girls.
“AGILE project is a great opportunity in our society,it’s an opportunity for our girls to improve their education in the state,” he stated.
In their separate remarks, representative of local government chairmen,and Emirs from the four local government councils thanked VAI and AGILE for initiating stakeholders town hall meeting on citizen participation on AGILE project in the area.
The stakeholders assured both VAI and AGILE of their full support, commitment and promise to safeguard all that has been put in place for the success of the programs in the state,and further appealed of more of such AGILE project in their communities.
