A chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has appealed to the Police, Department of State Security (DSS), and other security agencies to provide protection for the party’s leaders due to threats against their lives and properties.
Ajadi, in a statement issued on Saturday and shared with journalists, highlighted reports of imminent danger to the lives and properties of NNPP leaders. He urged security agencies to remain vigilant and ensure the apprehension of those planning harmful actions before they can execute their plans.
He emphasized that pre and post-election periods should not escalate into life-threatening situations, stating, “I am calling on security agencies to please protect our leaders as there are threats to their lives and properties across the country due to the fact that the party is growing and receiving the support of Nigerians.”
Ajadi pointed out specific incidents, including a tampered judgment at the Court of Appeal involving Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, which has heightened tensions. He noted that the opposition’s realization of the NNPP’s strength and potential victory at the Supreme Court has led to threats against the lives and properties of party members.
He stated, “They know there is no way we will not win at the Supreme Court. We are the leading party in Kano State. We dominate the House of Assembly, we are the grassroots, and our opponents are jittery. They know their dream of taking over Kano State has failed. So there are threats to our lives and our properties.”
Ajadi, citing information from the party, disclosed alleged plans to attack the National Secretariat of the NNPP and identified some party leaders as potential targets. He urgently called on security agencies to intervene and requested a thorough investigation into the reported threats.
“Our Acting National Chairman, Abba Kawu Ali, has also petitioned the Inspector General of Police and the Department of State Security (DSS) about the reports of threats to the lives and properties of some leaders of our great party, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). Our leaders have requested a thorough investigation into this report and adequate protection around our National Headquarters and leaders of the party.”
Ajadi reassured that the NNPP is a peace-loving party and does not engage in violence but stressed the importance of safeguarding the lives and properties of its members.
