Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris has appealed to the organisers of the ongoing hunger and bad governance protest in the state to stop as the end would be counterproductive.

Governor Idris made this appeal on Thursday when he addressed the people of the state, he added that, though it is the right of the citizens to peacefully protest, if not handled with care the end would be counterproductive, which will invariably lead to a lack of peace in the state.

He said that available credible information has revealed devilish plans by some unpatriotic and unscrupulous elements to import some miscreants from outside the state to cause mayhem.

“Some people who don’t have the interest of the state at heart are planning to import some hired thugs from outside Kebbi State into the state especially Birnin Kebbi, Argungu, Jega and Yauri to cause mayhem.

“Whosoever knows Kebbi State knows that we respect the laws of the land.

“Protest is not part of us but some people want to import it and cause problems for our people,” the Governor stated

The governor reiterated that as a responsible government, his administration will not allow those who don’t have public interest at heart to vandalise public utilities as well as private properties of law-abiding citizens.

He lamented that available information has revealed a dastardly plan by some heinous persons to attack the state water board and vandalize it under the guise of protest.

He said, “Some people want to protest and undermine the peace the people of Kebbi State are now enjoying and we won’t allow that.

“Therefore, we feel that we call upon the protesters to see reason and shelve it in the interest of peace and security of the state.

“If you vandalise any public utility or private property, they all belong to the people of the state.

Governor Idris assured the people that the government is doing its best to address the challenges being faced by people.

“The government is doing everything humanly possible to address the challenges facing the people of the state.”

The Kauran Gwandu added that if trouble starts, nobody knows when it will stop or where it will affect, saying, “protest always have negative multiplier effects.

“Once again, I appeal to the protesters to see reason and shelve the protest and not to allow some unpatriotic egocentric elements to influence them.

“The state belongs to all of us and we don’t have any other state but Kebbi and we should not destroy it through the influence of some bad elements.”
