The organised Labour in Nasarawa state on Wednesday submitted a protest letter to the Head of Civil Service of the state, Barr. Abigail Waya, over the suffering of the workers and the masses caused by the remove of fuel subsidy.

The union which consist of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), led the protest from Total Filling Station, Lafia, to the office of the Deputy Gov. Dr. Emmanuel Akabe where they handed over the letter of protest to the head of service.

Receiving the letter on behalf of Nasarawa state government, the  Head of Civil Service lauded the workers for conducting themselves peacefully through out the match.

Barr. Waya further said that already committees for palliative were constituted by the Federal Government and Nasarawa State Government to cushion the suffering of the workers and masses.

She therefore promised to brief Gov. Abdullahi Sule about their issues and submit the letter to him.

Speaking during the protest, Comr. Ismaila Oko, NLC Chairman, called on FG to reconsider the action given the hardship the workers and the masses were going through since the subsidy was removed.

The NLC Chairman added that the government should immediately roll out whatever they have to do to improve the lives of  the workers and the masses before things get out of control.

“The whole salaries of workers now is being spent on transportation to our offices only since May 29, that subsidy was announced to have been removed.

“Workers cannot longer cater for the school fees of their children, feed their family members and live up to other responsibilities in the family,” Oko added.

On his part, Comr. Mohammed Doma, TUC Chairman tasked the government to act fast to address the increasing hike in the price of petroleum.

He added that how can the country be producing petroleum and buy a litter at the exorbitant price that most people cannot afford.

“Our salaries cannot take care of our transportation to our offices alone and we are suffering,” the TUC Chairman added.
