As the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress begin a nationwide strike across the nation, public schools have closed while workers shun their offices.
The leadership of Labour had earlier last week announced their decision to embark on a nationwide strike to press home their demands.
However, the nationwide strike is coming barely two weeks as a backup to the already existing strike in Imo State that has crippled businesses, hotels, markets, and the entire economic activities in the state.
The Federal Secretariat was under lock and key, while the State Secretariat was virtually scanty as workers stayed away from the office in total compliance with the strike directives.
Some commercial banks and filling stations were completely shut down as buyers could not have access to the fuel product, irrespective of its skyrocketing rate.
Our correspondent gathered that some tertiary institutions in the state also joined the strike in line with the directive by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to proceed on the strike today.
However, their earlier strike in the state, which was yet to be called off before the national strike, had continued to pose challenges and difficulties to the people of the state.
