Hon. Olumide Osunlana, a member of All Progressive Congress has describe the former governor of Osun State Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as betrayal of his own legacy and party. He also urge the Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola to retrace his step from digging his own political oblivion.

Hon. Olumide Osunlana voice his opinion in osogbo during a chat on the political landscape of the state and 2026 in view.

He assert that “Former Governor Rauf Aregbesola, once celebrated as a transformative leader in Osun State, now stands at a crossroads defined by betrayal and political opportunism. As the founder of the Omoluabi Movement, Aregbesola’s recent maneuvers resemble those of a judas, betraying the very principles and platform that once elevated him to prominence. His actions not only undermine his legacy but also exploit the hopes of a populace still reeling from his controversial tenure.

During his time as governor, Aregbesola’s administration was marked by policies that directly harmed the very people he claimed to serve. The half salaries paid to civil servants during economic downturns were not just financial burdens; they eroded trust and stability in a workforce essential to the state’s functioning. Coupled with exorbitant tax rates that stifled economic activity and the controversial merging of schools, Aregbesola’s policies reflect a fundamental disconnect from the needs of the masses. These decisions alienated many who had once viewed him as a beacon of progress, revealing a leader more concerned with maintaining power than addressing the needs of his constituents.

Now, as he rallies behind the Omoluabi Movement, it is difficult to see this initiative as anything but a desperate attempt to cling to relevance in the face of an uncertain political landscape. With the 2026 elections looming, Aregbesola seems intent on positioning himself as a savior, despite his history of neglect and mismanagement. This shift reeks of political theater a familiar script that many in Osun have seen before. The only supporters who seem to align with his renewed ambitions are figures like Najeem Salam, Adeoti Moshood, and Kolapo Alimi, who previously aligned with the PDP in 2022. This speaks volumes about the lack of genuine grassroots support for his latest endeavor.

The Yoruba proverb “iná èsìsì kò kí jó ni léèmejì” reminds us that a fire cannot burn twice in the same place. The people of Osun are wise to Aregbesola’s tactics. They understand that his movement is not a revival of true leadership but rather a continuation of the very traits that led to his earlier downfall. The civil servants and the wider Osun populace are not easily swayed by political shenanigans; they recognize that the promise of change must be backed by genuine commitment and accountability.

It is high time for Aregbesola to reassess his trajectory. Instead of digging his own political grave, he should confront the reality of his past actions and acknowledge the consequences of his policies. The road ahead may be fraught with challenges, but pretending to be a champion for the people while betraying them will only lead him further into political oblivion.

The people of Osun deserve a leader who genuinely prioritizes their welfare over personal ambition. As Aregbesola moves forward, he must remember that the true measure of leadership lies not in grandiose movements or empty rhetoric, but in the tangible improvements in the lives of the people he aims to serve. It is time for him to either embrace this truth or fade into the shadows of political history.
