The City of David Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Lagos has taken the decision to suspend Pastor Idowu Iluyomade following the controversial birthday celebration of his wife.
This decision comes shortly after the passing of Herbert Wigwe, former Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Access Holdings Plc.
According to a report by ChurchTimes, a top pastor within the church, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that the suspension of Pastor Iluyomade was initiated by the governing council of the church.
The move was reportedly in response to the widespread public outcry triggered by the extravagant party.
“The decision to suspend him was not made by Pastor Adeboye. The governing council deliberated on the matter and reached this decision.
“It’s believed to be a step in the right direction, although some feel it’s overdue,” the source explained.
The suspension was communicated to Pastor Iluyomade via a letter issued over the weekend, as confirmed by sources within the church.
Pastor Charles Kpandei, from RCCG Resurrection Parish of Region 11, has been appointed as the interim replacement for Pastor Iluyomade.
Herbert Wigwe, whose demise occurred onboard a helicopter in February, was a member of the City of David Parish.
The tragic incident also claimed the lives of his wife, Chizoba, son, Chizi, and Abimbola Ogunbanjo, a former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group).
Following Wigwe’s passing, a lavish birthday celebration was organised for the parish pastor’s wife, Dr. Siju Iluyomade.
The event, held at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, garnered attention and criticism from various quarters.
